Questions
Every question, answered plainly
53 questions people ask before they put SEL XP in their team's hands. Each answer stands on its own, and says so when something is not built yet.
The basics
What is SEL XP?
SEL XP is a lead capture and follow-up app for sales teams in the Gulf that sell face to face: on customer sites, on daily sales rounds and at exhibitions. Reps scan business cards in Arabic and English or note a lead in seconds, qualify it and send the follow-up by email or WhatsApp. The lead syncs to the CRM, and managers see the results live.
Is it only for exhibitions?
No. A lead does not need an event. The rep chooses how they met the person, such as a site visit, a client meeting or a daily sales visit, and everything else works the same. Exhibitions add tools of their own: targets for the show, the stand team and the event's own catalogues and wording.
What is a field sales app?
A field sales app is software a sales rep uses on a phone while visiting customers. It records who they met, what was discussed and what happens next, and passes that to the company's CRM. SEL XP does this for site visits, client meetings and daily sales rounds, and adds follow-up by email and WhatsApp.
What is exhibition lead capture?
Exhibition lead capture is the job of recording who visited your stand, what they asked about and what should happen next, in a form your sales team can act on. Done well, each visitor becomes a qualified lead in the CRM with a follow-up already sent, rather than a business card in a pocket.
How is it different from a business card scanner app?
A card scanner stops at the contact. SEL XP carries on: it qualifies and scores the lead, warns you if a colleague has already met the person, sends the follow-up with the right catalogue, sets the next task, syncs to your CRM and shows managers every team and rep live.
Do I still need the organiser's badge scanner?
Often not. An organiser's lead retrieval app works at that one show and hands you a spreadsheet afterwards. SEL XP works at every show and on customer visits, reads business cards and open QR codes, and follows up at once. If an organiser encrypts its badges, only its own app can decode them, so some teams keep both at those shows.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Leads, voice notes, tasks and check-ins are saved and encrypted on the phone and sent when the signal returns. The Today, Leads and Tasks screens open with no signal. Reading a card with AI and sending an email need a connection, so those happen as soon as the phone is back online.
Which languages does it support?
The app runs in English and in Arabic, with right-to-left screens, and each person chooses their own language. Cards are read in both scripts, names are kept in Arabic and Latin letters, and follow-up messages have an English and an Arabic version.
Which CRMs does it connect to?
Odoo, versions 16 to 19, is the first connector and is in pilot. Zoho CRM is next, followed by HubSpot, Salesforce and Dynamics 365. Any other CRM can take the spreadsheet export in the meantime.
Which phones and computers does it run on?
SEL XP runs today as a web app that installs from the browser on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. Reps use it on their phones, and managers and admins also use it at a desk. App Store and Google Play apps are on the way.
Who is it for?
Any company in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman whose people meet customers in person: on site visits, on daily sales rounds, in client meetings and at exhibitions. Typical teams supply oil and gas, building materials and industry, distribute medical devices or food, sell technology and security systems, or broker property.
How do we get started?
We set your workspace up with you: your companies and branches, teams, products and catalogues, follow-up wording in English and Arabic, and the CRM connection. Reps sign in with a code sent to their email, so there are no passwords to hand out.
Lead capture
More on thisCan it read Arabic business cards?
Yes. SEL XP reads cards printed in Arabic, English or both. The name is kept in Arabic and in Latin letters, and fields the reader is unsure of are marked so you can correct them before saving.
What happens when there is no internet in the exhibition hall?
The lead still saves. It is encrypted on the phone and sent when the signal returns, even if you have closed the app. A card photographed offline is read once the phone is online, and the details it finds are offered to you to add.
Can it scan exhibition badges?
It reads QR codes that hold contact details in an open format: vCard, MECARD and LinkedIn profile codes. Some organisers encrypt their badges so that only their own app can read them. In that case SEL XP keeps the code with the lead and you type the name.
How accurate is the card reading?
It depends on the card: glare, folds, small print and handwriting all matter. That is why the app shows every field it read, marks the ones it is unsure of with a confidence figure, and waits for a person to approve before anything is saved.
How long does it take to capture a lead?
The app is designed so that one person can scan a card, check it, qualify the lead and send the follow-up in about 30 seconds. The card reading itself takes about ten seconds, and you can keep tapping while it arrives.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Today SEL XP runs as a web app that you install from the browser on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. App Store and Google Play apps are on the way.
Follow-up
More on thisCan I follow up exhibition leads on WhatsApp?
Yes. SEL XP opens WhatsApp with your approved message and a link to the visitor's page already written, so the rep only presses send. It uses WhatsApp click-to-chat, which needs no WhatsApp API and no template approval.
Does it send catalogues as attachments?
No. Catalogues go as a link to a page made for that visitor, which lists the catalogues that match what they asked about. The page records when it is first opened, and large files never bounce off a mail server.
Can the follow-up email be in Arabic?
Yes. Each follow-up message has an English and an Arabic version, and the rep chooses the language when sending. Admins can replace the standard wording with the company's own in both languages.
How do I know the email arrived?
The mail service reports back whether each email was delivered, bounced or marked as spam, and the lead's history shows it. A bounced email is treated as no follow-up, so the lead stays on the reminder list.
What stops leads being forgotten after the show?
Two clocks. A lead nobody has called, emailed or messaged a day after it was captured goes on its owner's reminder, hot leads first. A hot lead still untouched after two days is sent to the owner's manager.
CRM sync
More on thisDoes it work with Odoo?
Yes. SEL XP sends companies, contacts and leads to Odoo versions 16 to 19, adds the lead's history to Odoo's chatter, creates the next task as an Odoo to-do and records the exhibition as the campaign. The connector is in pilot with our first customer.
Does it work with Zoho CRM?
The Zoho CRM connector is the next one being built. Until it is ready, leads can be exported as a spreadsheet and imported into Zoho. HubSpot, Salesforce and Dynamics 365 connectors follow.
Will it create duplicate records in my CRM?
No. Before a lead is created the app looks the person up in your CRM, and each record's CRM id is stored the moment it is returned. A push that is interrupted picks up where it stopped and never creates a second record.
What happens if the CRM is down during the show?
Reps notice nothing. Leads stay in the app and are retried after 1, 5 and 30 minutes, then 2 and 6 hours. After that they are listed under Not sent, with the reason, for an admin to send again.
Can companies in the same group use different CRMs?
Yes. Each company or branch can have its own CRM connection. A lead goes to the CRM of the company it was captured for. If that company has none, it goes to its parent's, and then to the group's.
Can I export leads to Excel?
Yes. Managers and admins can export the leads they are allowed to see as a spreadsheet, up to 5,000 at a time, filtered by event, company, team and period. Every export is written to the audit log.
Teams and dashboards
More on thisCan managers see leads during the exhibition, not after it?
Yes. The Overview updates as reps capture. It shows leads against the event's target, qualified and hot leads, pipeline by currency, leads by hour and how quickly each lead received its first message.
How are leads assigned to salespeople?
A manager selects one lead or many and hands them to a person, or splits them across a team so each goes to whoever has the fewest open. The new owner is told, the lead's open tasks move with it, and the handover can be undone for two minutes.
What happens if nobody follows up a hot lead?
After one day with no call, email or message, the lead appears on its owner's reminder. After two days a hot lead is sent to whoever is above the owner. Managers can also nudge the owner with one tap.
Can a group with several companies share one workspace?
Yes. SEL XP models a group as companies and branches, each with admins, sales managers and teams. A rep can sell for more than one company, each lead is tagged with the company it is for, and people see their own records and those of the people below them.
Can I set a target for an exhibition?
Yes. Each event can have three targets: leads, qualified leads (hot and warm) and pipeline in one currency. The Overview shows progress against each when you choose that event.
Digital business card
More on thisDoes the visitor need to install an app?
No. The QR opens a normal web page in the visitor's browser. They can save your contact, open your catalogues and share their own details without installing or signing in to anything.
Does the QR code work without internet?
Yes. When the rep's phone has no signal, the QR switches by itself from a link to the contact's details, so the visitor's camera can still save the contact. Sharing details back needs the visitor to be online.
What happens when a visitor shares their details?
They arrive as a new lead for the rep whose card was scanned, marked as shared from the card, with the consent the visitor gave. The rep is emailed and can qualify and follow up in the usual way.
Can each company in a group have its own card design?
Yes. Each company sets its own colour and logo, and a rep who sells for several companies has one card for each. Details shared from a card become a lead for that card's company.
Field Presence
More on thisDoes it track my sales team's location all day?
No. Field Presence reads location once when a rep taps check-in and once when they tap check-out, with the app open. Nothing is recorded in between, and the app never runs location in the background.
What if a rep's phone cannot get a location?
The check-in still goes through. It is marked “No location” for the manager to see. The same happens for low accuracy, for a check-in made from a browser and for one made offline. A check-in is flagged, never blocked.
Can it record customer site visits?
Yes. A visit session is started at the customer's site and ended on leaving. It is linked to the lead, and the time on site is kept with the lead's history.
Is Field Presence included in the price?
It is an optional add-on with its own price, switched on per workspace. Companies that only need lead capture at exhibitions do not pay for it and never see it in the app.
Pricing
More on thisHow much does SEL XP cost?
SEL XP is priced per person, per year, and quoted for your team. The price depends on how many people capture leads and whether you add Field Presence. Tell us your team size and how your team sells and we will send a quote.
Is there a free trial?
There is no self-serve trial, because the app is set up around your company: your teams, products, catalogues and CRM. Instead we run a demo with your own set-up in mind, and we suggest starting with one team or one exhibition before rolling out wider.
Is Field Presence included?
No. Field Presence, the check-in and check-out add-on, has its own price and is switched on per workspace. If you only need lead capture and follow-up, you do not pay for it.
How do we pay?
By invoice. SEL XP is sold to companies directly: there is no card payment in the app and nothing is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Tell us the currency you need when you ask for a quote.
What happens to our data if we leave?
Your leads are yours. Managers and admins can export them as a spreadsheet at any time, and if your CRM is connected they are already there with their history.
Security and privacy
More on thisWhere is our data stored?
SEL XP stores its database and files in Mumbai, India, which is the nearest region our hosting providers offer to the Gulf. If your company's policy requires data to stay in your own country, tell us before you buy: a self-hosted deployment in your own environment is the option for that case.
Can other customers see our leads?
No. Each company has its own workspace, and the separation is enforced by the database itself, with row-level security on every table, not only by the application. The service connects with a role that cannot bypass it.
Who inside our company can see a lead?
A rep sees their own leads. A manager sees their teams' leads, a company or branch admin sees that unit's, and owners see everything. The server works this out for every list, export and report, so the app cannot show more than a person is allowed.
Is data on the phone protected?
Yes. What the app keeps on the phone for offline use, including leads, tasks and anything waiting to be sent, is sealed with AES-GCM encryption. It is forgotten when the person signs out.
Does the AI keep our business cards?
No. Card reading, voice transcription and note drafts go through AI providers set to zero data retention, so nothing is kept after the answer comes back. A person approves what the AI read or wrote before it is saved.
How do people sign in?
With a six-digit code sent to their work email, so there are no passwords to leak or reuse. People are invited by an admin, and an admin can switch a person off at once.
